2010 Quilty Recap

Posted by Strlady at 12:50 PM 6 comments
2010 was not at all what I expected when it comes to my craft. I started with the engines revving to go but work got in the way and I felt very uninspired during summer.

Still, I got a fair amount of quilting done.

All my Schnibbles got quilted in 2010 - I only have one straggler left to be bound which I will include among my first few projects in 2011.

Madeline, Sunday Best and Tagalong were started and finished during 2010. Picnic and Winter White were made in 2009 but were completed in 2010.

I made quilts for my favorite girls this year...
Hidden Stars went to my Lindsey in April and Little Bits of Love found it's way to Jessi in November.

Coming Soon arrived just in time to welcome my cousins first child, Camila Victoria in September.

I was able to kick out a few tops that were sitting around for over 10 years begging to be finished. It's a Jungle Out There, Compass Stars and The Bounty all were quilted and bound in 2010! Yeah, for reducing the UFO pile!!

And then there were the last two of the year. I actually had not posted about these since they didn't get bound until early December.

Bread and Butter could have been the UFO of the year,
but I found a second wind in Fall and got her completed.

She was quilted by Margaret who did a wonderful job taming this wild beasty.
It got ALOT of use during Xmas.

Everyone seemed to want to throw it over themselves and enjoy the warmth of the flannel backing. The colors look great on the sofa too!

Short Story was started while in my summer slump and I was surprised that I actually finished it
just as summer ended.

I love this quilt. Love Love Love it. Mary quilted it with a design that just goes perfectly with the fabric. It's MY first quilt. The first quilt I claimed as mine.

I have other quilts but those are more house quilts. Quilts that belong to my house, but this one is mine. The batting is a dream (I wish I could remember what I used) and it has the perfect weight.

I finished one more top in 2010 but I decided that I will not count it as a 2010 finish because  it has not been bound. Quilted, but not bound. As soon as I get the last stitch on it, I will  call it finished.

A few other WIP that move onto 2011. Opening Day and Two Piece Puzzle were started in 2010 and become a priority for 2011. I can't wait for these to be finished but there is one more that was started and never blogged about. I don't even have pictures yet.. I am making my daughter her wedding quilt. I'll have more details next week since I'll be heading to my guild's Retreat this weekend and will be working on it almost exclusively.

So... that was my Quilty year. Next up.. Goals for 2011 (which I already started talking about above).

A New Year to start anew

Posted by Strlady at 4:10 PM 7 comments
Do I really have to recap last year? I just want to talk about all the good stuff in store for this year!

I am proud that last year I got so many quilts finished. Not just the tops, but quilted and bound and in the hands of people that will love them.

Three baby quilts found thier way to the Corrigan's for their new twins and big brother Ethan.

A Pumpkin Patch was given to the Pumpkin Lady in NH.

The Red White and Blue lays on T-Choco's bed to keep her warm this winter.

The Wallflower quilt my daughter made recieved some quilting and binding from Mom and made it's way to Rochester last February in time to show off her mad skills as the youngest quilter in our clan. A Rag Quilt was finally finished in time to give to said daughter as a welcome home present after she graduated college.

Last but not least, a small table runner got it's borders and made it to NH so it could be embellished and made pretty. Yup! That is 8 quilts that were FINISHED. I also made 3 schnibbles tops that have not gotten quilted yet. I was a busy bee this year and I loved it.

What are my plans for this year? My Goal is to make (Finish completely - from cutting to binding) 12 quilts this year. I already have 11 patterns selected and started collecting the fabric needed to get them done. That said, I have a few UFOs that need some quilting and binding before they join the 'Finished' group so I'm hoping to tackle those as well. Three of those should be heading my way soon since Margaret from Mainely Quilts of Love let me know they have already been quilted.

Since big goals start one step at a time, I'm setting my sights on January.

I'll be quilting and binding two of those Schnibbles from 2009

Picnic (November Schnibble)

Winter White (September Schnibble)

I'm off to my guild's retreat on the 16th and plan on kicking my first Lap Quilt out the door by using the layer cake of Essence I picked up at Houston this year

(It's hidden under all the other stash in the picture)

The pattern I'm using is called Hidden Stars from the book Layer Cake, Jelly Roll & Charm Quilts by Pam and Nicky Lintott. I'm adding to the original design to make big enough to hug someone.

I'm also going to make this month's Schnibble:

Madeline

This is Carrie's sample made using Rouenneries by French General. I'm thinking I want to make it a bit more of a Valentine's day piece so I'm looking at another fabric line. This should be the smallest of the bunch measuring 28" square. Brenda would live it because it would fit on the table for squaring it! LOL!

On top of this I have a few quilts arriving soon that will need to bound before they will be added to the first few finishes for 2010.

It promises to be a stellar quilting year! Wish me luck with my hefty goals this year.
